Seven Treasure Formula (Jin Hua Mei Ran Wan). The traditional formula on which we base our treatment addresses symptoms resulting from deficiency of kidney yin and essence (Jing), as well as deficiency of blood and liver yin. The Chinese name for this formula can be translated as “Elixir of the Seven Treasures for Beautiful Hair.” In modern times, it has been used to treat thin and graying hair—although the research text only briefly mentions this symptom. This formula has been modified with Drynaria (Gu Sui Bu) to tonify the kidneys and liver, Red Peony (Chi Shao) to cool and invigorate, and Licorice Root (Gan cao) to harmonize and tonify qi.
